Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy (CIPN) effects an high percentage of cancer patients and for some, becomes a permanent condition. This condition often starts as numbness and tingling in a sock and glove pattern but easily progresses in severity. For cancer patients this can mean ending up in a wheel chair or dose reductions/cessation of potentially lifesaving treatments. Meanwhile, CIPN is not well managed by western medicine and oncologists are acutely aware of the need for better interventions.
In this course you learn from seasoned practitioners working in hospital based settings who have dedicated their careers to the advancement of TCM and herbal medicine. Jason and Heather treat CIPN and share their collective knowledge to demonstrate what patterns specific chemotherapy drugs create and how these patterns progress. They guide you in understanding herb/drug interactions and how to safely and effectively to negate symptoms using herbal formulas and TCM modalities.
Dr. Peterman is currently heading up research on prescribing the TCM formulas in this class in the infusion room and using them congruently with chemotherapy. She shares her knowledge on gaining physician support and safe practices. This course is one of a kind and truly gives you the tools and the confidence you need to start working with this patient population during and after cancer treatments.
In this class you will learn:
- Understand the pathogenesis of chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy from a bio medicine and TCM perspective.
- Identify patterns, treatment strategies and principles as they relate to presentations of CIPN and as they relate to chemo drugs.
- Enhance clinical reasoning skills and provide streamlines formula recommendations.
- Learn to effectively treat CIPN during and after chemotherapy.
